Privacy Policy

In short
- Your designs and the photos you put in a photo frame stay on your iPhone and are never sent to the Developer.
- When you show the weather for “Current Location”, your location is sent to Apple to get the weather. It is never sent to the Developer.
- No ads, no account and no tracking of you across other companies’ apps or websites.
This Privacy Policy explains how the iPhone app “Mokume” and its widgets (the “App”) handle your information. The App is provided by Yuhei Koike (the “Developer”).
Location
The App uses your location only if you allow it, and only while you use the App or a widget shows it.
- Weather: when a weather widget is set to “Current Location”, your location is sent to Apple’s WeatherKit to get the weather, and to Apple’s map services to show the name of the town. Apple handles it under Apple’s Privacy Policy.
- Sunlight on the letters: the direction of the sun, which lights and shades the letters on the boards, is calculated on your iPhone from your location.
- Your location is never sent to the Developer’s server and is never stored outside your iPhone.
- If you do not allow location, the App uses Tokyo or the city you choose.
Photos
- To put a photo in a photo frame, the App uses the iOS photo picker. Only the photo you choose is handed to the App, so it does not ask for access to your whole photo library.
- The photo is kept in the App’s own storage on your iPhone so that the widget can show it. It is never uploaded.
What is stored on your iPhone
The App keeps the following on your iPhone, in storage shared only between the App and its widgets. None of it is sent to the Developer.
| What | Details |
|---|---|
| Designs | the wood, form, letters, finish and other choices of each design, and the finished board images |
| Photos | the photos you chose for photo frames |
| Wood images | wood images downloaded from the Developer’s server |
| Weather | the most recent weather and the place it is for (latitude and longitude, and the town name), kept so the widgets can show it without fetching it again |
| Settings and purchase status | your choices in the App, which wood series you own and whether Mokume Premium is active |
Deleting a design deletes its images. Deleting the App removes everything it stored from your iPhone.
Communication with the Developer’s server
The App talks to the Developer’s server (run on Cloudflare) for the following. None of it includes your location, photos, designs, name or email address.
- Wood images: the list of woods and the wood images are downloaded from the server.
- Weather usage counts: weather data has a usage limit, so once a day the App sends the number of times it fetched the weather each day. Only the date, the count and a random value used to avoid counting a report twice are sent.
- When weather became part of Mokume Premium: the App asks the server for this date. It compares the date with the day you first installed the App, which Apple provides on your iPhone, to decide whether weather is free for you. The day you first installed the App is not sent.
Like any network request, your IP address may appear in the server’s access logs. The Developer does not use it to identify you.
Purchases and payment
Wood series and Mokume Premium are purchased through Apple’s App Store. The Developer never receives payment details such as card numbers or billing addresses.
To confirm purchases, manage what you have bought and restore purchases, the App uses a service from RevenueCat, Inc. RevenueCat handles:
- an anonymous user ID that the App creates automatically (not tied to your name or email address)
- the products bought, purchase history, and transaction and receipt validation data
- entitlement status, country or region, and currency
This information is used only to provide what you bought, restore purchases and look into purchase problems. It is never used for advertising or tracking. See RevenueCat’s privacy policy for how RevenueCat handles data.
Information handled through Apple
- Diagnostics: if you allow “Share With App Developers” in your iPhone settings, Apple provides the Developer with crash reports and aggregated usage figures. Apple handles this under its own privacy policy and does not provide it in a form that identifies you. You can change this in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
What the App does not use
- advertising or the advertising identifier
- analytics services (such as Google Analytics or Firebase)
- third-party crash reporting tools
- social media SDKs
- accounts or sign-in
Children’s privacy
The App does not collect anyone’s location, photos or designs, including children’s. Purchases on the App Store may require a parent’s approval under Apple’s rules, and purchase information is handled by Apple and RevenueCat as described above.
Your rights
Because your location, photos and designs never reach the Developer, the Developer holds none of them to disclose, correct or delete. You can remove the data on your iPhone at any time by deleting it in the App or deleting the App. For purchase information handled by Apple or RevenueCat, contact us and we will help as far as the law allows.
- EU and UK (GDPR): purchase information is processed to perform the contract of providing what you bought.
- California (CCPA): the Developer does not sell or share personal information (including for cross-context behavioral advertising).
- Japan (Act on the Protection of Personal Information): location, photos and designs are handled only on your iPhone; the Developer never acquires or holds them.

When this policy changes, the “Last updated” date on this page changes with it. Important changes will be announced in the App or in the App Store release notes.
